File Formats
At Allison Companies we can accept many file formats on both Macintosh and PC platforms, although, we do have preferred file formats that will make your job progress more smoothly. Those preferred formats are listed below ranked in order of preference.
1. AI or CDR - Adobe Illustrator vCS3 or CorelDraw v13
These two formats are the original vector based documents saved directly from the programs that created them. When using these types of files, please remember to include all fonts and graphics that you have used in your document. If produced on a Mac please convert all text to outlines or curves.
2. EPS - Encapsulated Postscript
This format can be used with almost any program. It should come from either Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Pagemaker, or any other vector based program. Whenever possible convert your text to curves or outlines.
3. PSD - Adobe Photoshop vCS3
This format is the original bitmap based document from Adobe Photoshop. It is primarily used for photographs and photo composites and retains layered information for further editing. A PSD file from Adobe Photoshop can be sent via CD. Leaving the file in RGB mode is preferred. Do not attempt to email a PSD they are usually too large to send over email.
4. TIFF - Tagged Image File Format
This format is excellent for photographs. Its quality and flexibility is higher than other bitmap file formats. A TIFF file from Adobe Photoshop or Corel Photopaint can be sent via CD. Leaving the file in RGB mode is preferred. Do not attempt to email a TIFF they are usually too large to send over email.
5. JPG - Joint Photographics Experts Group Format
This format is great for transferring photographs across the Internet. A JPG file from Adobe Photoshop or Corel PhotoPaint can be sent via email providing the file size is less than 10mb. Leaving the file in RGB mode is preferred.
6. AutoCAD 2008
DXF, DWG - Architectural and Engineeering plans should always be supplied in an appropriate CAD format.
7. Fax or Mail (not preferred)
Of course if your artwork is not in a digital format you can always fax or mail it. And we will digitally recreate it.
